Our new puppy, Fred
Here is our newest member to the Darbenack bunch. This is Fred, our
little Jack Russel/Sheltie cross. Can you believe I found this little
girl in the middle of the road?! Heres the story; I was driving home
after seeing my oldest son with his grandparents camping. I saw this
little golden puff ball running down the center line of the road, then
run into some bushes along the side. I stopped the car and picked her
up. Fred was full of burrs! More than I've ever seen on a dog, you
couldn't even run your hand threw her hair. Anyways, I drove to the
closest house, which was a cattle farm, to see if she belonged to them.
Ironically enough, it was her owners, but they had no interest in her
what so ever. So, I took her home, hoping Paul wouldn't have a problem.
Look at his face! Does that look like a "puppy can't stay" face? So,
I bet now your thinking how did this little GIRL puppy get a name like
Fred? Well, she got it from my oldest son when he came home from camping
with his grandparents the next day. Since I sometimes call both my sons
"fred" to get their attention, he told me that since I call him Fred and
that I love him, well he loved the puppy so her name should be Fred. Now
how do you say 'no' to that? From then on Fred was her name. Apache, our
Dalmation, is now working extra hard on her agility practice. I believe
shes a bit jelous! She plays with Fred, but, only when no one is
watching. As soon as someone sees her, she growls at Fred and leaves the
room. It's like "Umm.. I'm not playing with a puppy"
Here is the newest picture we have of Fred. She has grown so quickly
already! You can see that she isn't as fuzzy, she is starting to get rid
of her baby fur. Still such a sweetheart though! She is currently
learning how to do weave poles and is getting really good at them!
She already knows how to come, sit and lay down!
Here she is playing with my son in the fresh
snow.
Above: Look how Fred has grown into a beautiful young girl! She is still learning,
but is doing VERY well with basic commands and some trick commands. She
knows how to speak on command now. She is playing with some of my riding
students in that picture, looking very happy as usual!
Fred is currently attending puppy school for young agility dogs. She
is doing fantastic.
